The Miami Dolphins will be without their star running back, Arian Foster, for good. Right in the middle of his eighth season in the NFL, Arian announced he’ll be officially retiring, effective immediately.
With a hamstring injury keeping him on the sidelines for most of the 2016 NFL season, Arian Foster, 30, is ready to end his career as a football player. The Dolphins running back announced his decision on Oct. 24.
“There comes a time in every athlete’s career when their ambition and their body are no longer on the same page,” Arian wrote for Uninterrupted. “I’ve reached that point. It’s hard to write those words because this game has been everything to me…my therapy, my joy, my solace and my enemy. I’ve learned to love every facet of this game, from the peak of accomplishments to the gutter of criticism. And it all makes the ride worthwhile.”
He went on to reminisce on his eight years in the NFL, and admitted the game gave him “more than I could have ever asked for,” but it’s clear that he’s reached the point where he has to walk away. “It’s not commonplace to do it midseason, but my body just can’t take the punishment this game asks for any longer,” he explained.
Arian was a star on the University of Tennessee’s football team, but didn’t get picked in the 2009 NFL draft. He was eventually signed as a free agent by the Houston Texans and made his active roster debut later that year, then stayed with the team until 2015 and holds the team record for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. However, he was plagued with injuries throughout his stellar years on the team, and only played four games with the Dolphins in 2016 before another injury sidelined him once again. Of course, we wish Arian the best in his next endeavors!
