Disney’s latest animated flick ‘Moana’ is almost here, and Lin-Manuel Miranda has treated us to one of its dazzling songs. Prepare to be stunned by ‘You’re Welcome’, sung by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character, Maui. Click through to listen!
This is everything we wanted from a Disney movie, and more. Lin-Manuel Miranda, 36, followed up his groundbreaking musical Hamilton by writing the music for the animated movie Moana. The film tells the story of Moana (Auli’i Cravalho, 15), a teenage girl who sails out to sea on a daring mission to save her people. On her way, she encounters the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson, 44), who accompanies her on the journey.
And apparently, he’s a little full of himself! Maui, who helps Moana escape monsters and fulfill the ancient quest of her ancestors, also did some work building the world itself. He’s all too aware, and sings the incredible song “You’re Welcome” to Moana about it!
The clip is amazing, as Maui and his huge body bounce around, singing the cheery tune, his tattoos dancing to the song. You can definitely tell the song was written by Lin; it’s just totally him! We’re stunned by The Rock’s singing voice, too. Is there anything this man can’t do? Check out the fun lyrics:
What has two thumbs and pulled up the sky
When you were waddling yay high?
When the nights got cold, who stole you fire from down below?
You’re looking at him, yo
Oh, also I lasso’d the sun
To stretch your days and bring you fun
Also I harness the breeze
To fill your sails and shake your trees
So what can I say except you’re welcome?
For the islands I pulled from the sea
There’s no need to pray, it’s OK, you’re welcome
I guess it’s just my way of being me
You’re welcome, you’re welcome…
Moana hits theaters on November 23, 2016.
