OMG this is horrible! Vicente Antonio Bermudez Zacarias, the man who sentenced El Chapo and investigated some of Mexico’s biggest drug gangs was shot in the head on Oct. 17. If you can handle it, watch the graphic video of his assassination, here.
This news is completely devastating! Vicente Antonio Bermudez Zacarias, 32, — the judge responsible for putting Mexican drug lord El Chapo, 61, in a maximum security prison was killed on Oct. 17. Vicente was out for a morning jog in Metepec (close to Mexico City) when a mysterious killer creeped up behind him and shot him in the back of the head. The gunman immediately took of running, and left Vicente to lie injured in the street, according to local reports. Vicente was rushed to the hospital, but ultimately passed away from the injury around 8:30AM.
The shooter’s motive has not been determined, by El Chapo’s (real name Joaquin Guzman) crew is infamously known for executing or corrupting government officials, like Vicente. As a result, Supreme Court president Luis Maria Aguilar Morales is now urging police to provide extra safety for the city’s judges to ensure that a situation as tragic as this doesn’t happen again. Vicente tried his best to stay out of the public eye due to having a relatively dangerous job, and even reportedly offered soldiers a three million dollar bribe to not show his face on TV, but it was declined.
After escaping two different prison facilities in the past, El Chapo was captured (again) during a raid on Jan. 8. The drug kingpin was hiding underground in sewers when the marines found him, and it wasn’t long until the action hit the streets of Mexico. El Chapo found himself standing across a Walmart when the marines caught up to him — six months after chasing his tail.
HollywoodLifers, please send your kind words and prayers to Vicente’s family during this troubling time.
