Breakup songs are the ultimate revenge, and it isn’t just Taylor Swift who knows how to write them! Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards is getting Zayn Malik back with a new diss track — but there’s plenty more where that came from. See our roundup of celeb couples who’ve bashed each other in song right here!
Little Mix just dropped their new single “Shout Out To My Ex” on Oct. 16, which has fans in a frenzy thinking that it’s Perrie‘s way of letting Zayn know that she’s totally over him (and his girlfriend Gigi Hadid). She hasn’t said anything about the meaning behind the song herself, but there are plenty of clues that make it pretty obvious the song is about him. The song is about a tattooed boy who “took four long years to call it quits,” which is the exact amount of time Perrie and Zayn were together. Yeahhh, there’s really no denying that one!
While Zayn didn’t quite bash Perrie the way she let loose on him any of his songs on his album Mind of Mine, he definitely sang about her on some tracks. After all, writing a song about someone is the best way to get through a breakup…right Taylor Swift?!
Taylor is perhaps the most creative with the songwriting about her exes, but it’s still not too hard to identify who she’s singing about. Whether it’s Joe Jonas (“Forever & Always”), John Mayer (“Dear John”), or Harry Styles (“Style”), fans are always pretty quick to catch on. But because Taylor doesn’t exactly hide her feelings, the guys have proved to not be very shy about it either — all three of her singer exes have fired back! Joe got back at T-Swift while he was still with the Jonas Brothers on their track “Much Better,” while John waited a few years to fire shots at her with “Paper Doll.” And Harry took a direct shot in One Direction‘s “Perfect” with the line “if you need someone to write breakup songs about.” Talk about revenge!
Although Taylor hasn’t dropped a new song since breaking up with Calvin Harris this summer, he supposedly got his say in the split on his own track “My Way.” Ariana Grande and Big Sean had a very public relationship like Calvin and Taylor, so they sparked rumors that they had songs about each other after their breakup. Oh, and there’s plenty of speculation that Justin Bieber‘s song “Love Yourself” is about Selena Gomez, as well as her song “Feel Me” being about him!
It’s not just the pop world that has some majorly bitter exes dishing out diss songs, either. Ciara‘s song “I Bet” was believed to be about her breakup with Future, and he seemingly fired back with his song “How It Feel” he put out in September. And even country exes Jana Kramer and Brantley Gilbert have harshly dished about their breakups in song (Jana’s “Last Song” and Brantley’s “I’m Gone”), as well as Miranda Lambert (“Vice”) and Blake Shelton (“She’s Got A Way With Words”). Who knows who’ll be next, but this trend certainly won’t be stopping anytime soon!
