So sad. As we continue to mourn the death of Tyson Gay’s 15-year-old daughter Trinity, we remember her short, but amazing, life. Here are things you need to know about her, now.
1. She Tweeted just before her death that she had witnessed a shooting.
Trinity Gay wrote on Twitter at 2:00am. the morning that she was shot that she had seen gunfire. She also wrote that she was at the Cook Out restaurant, close by the University of Kentucky campus. At 4:00am, police were called to the scene after numerous witnesses reporting a shooting.
2. Like her dad, Trinity was also a sprinter.
Trinity was a sprinting star just like her dad Tyson Gay, and she was a top sprinter at Lafayette High School, where she was a student. At the 2015 100-meter dash state competition, she finished in an impressive fourth place. According to The Guardian, she was also a a regional 200-meter region champion.
3. Her school principal expressed his condolences on Twitter.
Bryne Jacobs, the principal of Lafayette High School, wrote a sweet and heartfelt message. “We are devastated to lose Trinity. Our Lafayette family will come together to provide love and support for our students and one another during this tragic time,” she wrote.
4. Trinity’s mom said her daughter wanted to be a surgeon.
Shoshana Boyd, Trinity’s mother, told the New York Daily News that her daughter had wanted to become a surgeon. “She was so innocent, she was so innocent,” she told the publication. “I just want people to stop shooting and realize who they’re hurting. It’s just random. They don’t understand, they don’t understand who they’re hurting.”
5. Two people have been detained in connection with her shooting.
According to Kentucky.com, gunfire was exchanged between a gray Dodge Charger and an unidentified sports car. It also reported that two people from the Dodge Charger were taken in for questioning, while officers are still looking for the second car.
