Trinity Gay’s mother, Shoshana Boyd, is inconsolable after her 15-year-old daughter was fatally shot on October 16. Shoshana spoke out about her incredible daughter, and the innocent life that was lost.
Shoshana Boyd was distraught after learning that her daughter, Trinity Gay, 15, was the victim of a random shooting. Trinity was fatally struck by a stray bullet when a group of men exchanged gunfire between two cars outside the Cook Out restaurant in Lexington, Kentucky. Poor Trinity was just hanging out with her friends when she was shot.
“She was so innocent, she was so innocent,” Shoshana told the NY Daily News, crying. “I just want people to stop shooting and realize who they’re hurting. It’s just random. They don’t understand, they don’t understand who they’re hurting. I should never have to bury my child. She wanted to be the fastest woman in the world, and they took that away from her.”
The pain Shoshana is experiencing is excruciating. She shared that Trinity had dreams of becoming a surgeon one day, and was primed to follow in her Olympian father’s footsteps. Trinity’s father is Olympic track and field star Tyson Gay, and she competed in the same events for her high school. She made it to the state finals several times. This past year, she placed fourth in the girls’ 100m dash.
Her father spoke out after her death, as well, and was clearly heartbroken. He lives in Florida, and said that he had just seen his daughter when she came to visit him for her fall break from school. He was flying back to his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, immediately after hearing the devastating news.
