Such a sad day! Not only did Martin Lawrence lose a cast member, he also lost a great friend. Hours before Tommy Ford’s passing, Martin sent love and prayers to his ‘big brother’ who was put on life support on Oct. 12. Read his heartfelt message, here.
Martin Lawrence, 51, and Tommy Ford, 52, were like BFFs all through the 90’s! The two actors worked together on the hit sitcom series Martin for FIVE years, and still managed to maintain a great friendship once the show went off the air. Like all of us, the Bad Boys actor was deeply saddened upon hearing the news that Tommy was put on life support on Oct. 12. “Prayers for my big brother Tommy and his family,” tweeted Martin — just a couple of hours before the 90’s icon passed away at an Atlanta hospital.

Tommy was rushed to the hospital on Oct. 9 after an aneurysm ruptured in his abdomen. Just two days prior, Tommy revealed via Instagram that he was recovering from knee replacement surgery, but it’s very unlikely that the incidents are related. The actor’s wife, Gina Sasso, heartbreakingly revealed that his health was on the decline ever since he entered the hospital. It was reported earlier on Oct. 12 that Tommy was not expected to make it through the day. Sadly, that prediction came true.
Martin also took to Instagram to post a second message right before hearing of Tommy’s passing. “Prayers for my brother that the Lord watches over him and his family through this difficult time. #Blessings #PrayersUp,” he wrote. The House Party star hasn’t posted anything new since the confirmation of Tommy’s death. However, his family DID release an official statement. “It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Son, father, brother, husband, and friend Tommy Mykhal Ford,” it reads. “Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief.”
