The Giants avoided becoming the third clean-sweep victims in the first round of the MLB Playoffs. The Toronto Blue Jays sent the Texas Rangers packing, 3-0, while the Cleveland Indians ended both the Boston Red Sox’ post-season and the career of David “Big Papi” Ortiz, 40. With the Giants down 2 games, the third meeting between these two teams was do-or-die for San Francisco.
What followed was a 13-inning game that was described as “absolutely bananas,” according to SB Nation. Madison Bumgarner, 27, the Giants pitching ace, faced fellow pitcher Jake Arrieta, 30. The Cubs pitcher suddenly became the club’s newest slugger, bashing a three-run homer. Before this, Madison had never allowed a home run to a pitcher, and this was an indication of how crazy the night was going to get.
The Cubs’ closer Aroldis Chapman, 28, was expected to send the Giants batters back to the bullpen, since he was known as retiring left-handed batters with ease. Yet, three left-handed Giants hitters each got a hit. Ultimately, it would be Joe Panik’s, 25, double in the 13th inning that allowed Brandon Crawford, 29, to score the game-winning run. Giants stayed alive, winning 6-5.
For the Cubs to win this game, they need to hit the Giants hard and not let up. They had a 27-batter span where no player managed a single hit, per SB Nation. Aroldis needs to shake off his bad night and get back to being a dominant closer, as well. For the Giants, Matt Moore, 27, needs to be deadly on the mound, sending the Cubs batters into hibernation.
Who do you think will win this game, HollywoodLifers? Will the Cubs conquer the Giants and advance to the next round of the playoffs? Will the Giants take the second step in their epic comeback?
