‘The Walking Dead’ panel at NYCC was chock full of details about season 7, so we gathered the most important right here for you to check out. Click inside for the scoop!
1.) Robert Kirkman Didn’t Think Shiva Would Work On TV
It’s true! Chris Hardwick, the panel moderator, spilled the beans by revealing that Robert once told him he never thought Shiva, Ezekiel’s tiger, would make the series. But not only did the tiger make the show, it’s one of the most anticipated parts of season seven. Robert said that Shiva is “great” on the show though, so that’s good news!
2.) Norman Reedus Revealed What Daryl Was Thinking In The Negan Scene
While we all want to know who Negan killed, another thing that would be cool to know is: what the heck were they all thinking? Well, during the panel Norman revealed that his character, Daryl, thought everyone was a goner. “We’re all gonna die,” is what Norman said that Daryl was thinking, adding that it was very “weird” to feel so “powerless” as his character after they survived for so long.
3.) Negan Has An Entire System Of Saviors Out There
While sharing why Negan is a more dangerous villain than The Governor was, Danai Gurira also revealed that Negan’s reign is wide-spread. Although unconfirmed how much we’ll see of it in season seven, Danai explained how Negan doesn’t just control “one town” like The Governor did — he has “multiple” systems running at all times.
4.) Tara Still Doesn’t Know About Denise’s Death
Okay, we sort of already knew this, but Alanna Masterson confirmed that Tara has no idea her girlfriend, Denise, has been killed. As viewers know, Tara went off on a “run” before everything with Negan went down, so she hasn’t been back since Dwight killed Denise on the train tracks. “It’s gonna be a really, really hard thing for her to hear if and when she finds out,” Alanna said.
5.) Morgan’s Dark Side Will Make A Return
During the panel, Lennie James really dived into Morgan’s decision to take someone’s life after vowing to Eastman he would never do that again. “The thing about it is if you notice at the end when he shoots that savior to save Carol, one bullet would have done it but he emptied the clip,” which says a lot about who Morgan could be. He also told the audience that the fans who wanted to see Morgan’s killer side return should “be careful what” they “wish for.” Whoa!
6.) Greg Nicotero Directed The Season 7 Premiere
It’s true! The man himself is behind the first episode, and during the NYCC panel he revealed that the most challenging part was knowing what fans were already expecting in the season seven premiere. However, he also shared that, “There’s some unbelievable moments and performances that sort of come out of the fog and the post-traumatic stress of the actual moment that I think really set the stage for the entire season.”
7.) Regret & Guilt Will Play A Part In Season 7
Lauren Cohan not only broke into tears during the NYCC panel, but also revealed that the characters who survive will definitely be questioning themselves after. “We will see how people deal with what they could and should and would have done,” she said.
8.) ‘The Walking Dead’ Will End Season 7 With It’s 99th Episode
Boy, how time flies! It was revealed during the NYCC panel that the seventh season’s finale will be the show’s 99th — and the premiere of season eight will be 100! That’s a huge milestone not just for the show, but the cast that has been with it for so long. We can’t wait to see what goes down in 100!
