The young life of a popular photographer ended in a horrifying way on Oct. 5, as Christopher Serrano died while attempting a stunt on a moving New York City subway car. Though Chris had defied death before, this time, he wouldn’t be so lucky.
Chris, 25, was killed while he was on top of a moving F train, according to the New York Post. The popular Instagram photographer (known as Heavy_Minds) was riding the subway with a female friend around 5 A.M. when he went in between two cars and began climbing up to the roof of the train.
As the subway neared the 4th Ave/9th Street station in Brooklyn, investigators suspect that Chris was struck by an object. He reportedly didn’t even get a chance to gain his balance, and his lifeless body was found on the roadbed a short time after.
After Chris’s tragic death, his brother, Ryan, went on Instagram to share a touching tribute, per PetaPixel. “I wish I had taken more photos of you,” Ryan said. “My first best friend. I’ll never forget our adventures. You took me to my first rooftop, my first abandoned building, first tunnel. You took me to my first concert, and my second one shortly after. 2 years ago we snuck out of the house after work to take pictures on a snowy night.” Ryan ended his ode to Chris by saying that “this house will never be the same without you.”

I wish I had taken more photos of you. I lost my brother today. My first best friend. I'll never forget our adventures. You took me to my first rooftop, my first abandoned building, first tunnel. You took me to my first concert, and my second one shortly after. 2 years ago we snuck out of the house after work to take pictures on a snowy night. We wandered the city during Storm Jonas taking photos. I'll never forget our celebratory high five after we both caught that photo of the lightning in DUMBO. We got chased out of a construction site by a helicopter. We could do anything together. We skated together. We worked together. Went to the gym together. Played video games together. Talked about almost anything together. This house will never be the same without you. I love you, brother. ❤️ @heavy_minds. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I really appreciate all the support. If anyone has any old photos or videos of my brother please contact me.

This was tragic end to a young man who became known for defying death. Chris’s Instagram account has gained over 107,000 followers by his passing, as it was filled with awe-inducing shots from dizzying heights throughout New York City.
From the top of the Brooklyn Bridge to leaning out windows of skyscrapers, Chris would climb everywhere and anywhere to get the shot. His last photo, posted on Oct. 2, showed his legs dangling off a skyscraper overlooking a busy Times Square. “It’s lonely up here,” he wrote. Sadly, this sense of adventure would be his undoing, as this stunt-gone-wrong would cut short his life.
Our thoughts go out to Chris’s family, friends and fans during this heartbreaking time of loss.
