Sadly, Messi won’t see any action during this game. Though he’s eager to return (even after he “retired” from international play), he’s still struggling with a groin injury that has put him on the shelf for weeks. “Messi is worried about his injury,” Argetina’s coach, Edgardo Bauza, 58, said ahead of the game, per ESPN. “He wants to play the games and it’s difficult to have him sidelined.” THowever, despite this eagerness, the coach said that “we never toyed with the option of having him in the squad.”
Instead, Edgardo wants Argentina’s favorite soccer son to fully recover before he comes back to the game. His presence will be missed, especially during these crucial qualifier games. La Abiceleste lost the first three qualification matches, but rebounded to win the last five. While they’re sitting comfortably in third place on the table (and just one point behind Uruguay and Brazil) they’d probably feel better if Lionel was eligible to play.
Peru, on the other hand, is in second-to-last place on the table and the squad’s players are already planning on enjoying the Russia 2018 World Cup from the comfort of their couches at home. Still, La Blanquirroja could pull off an upset and after Lionel’s medical report, Argentina doesn’t want to have any more bad news.
Who do you think will win this game, HollywoodLifers? Argentina or Peru?
