OMG! Melissa Etheridge caused some controversy after she made shocking comments about the Brangelina divorce, and now the singer has responded to the backlash in the best way she knows how — by writing a song about it! Listen here.
Melissa, 55, joined stopped by Watch What Happens Live on Oct, 5 where she commented on her dear friend, Brad Pitt, 52, and Angelina Jolie’s, 41, tragic divorce. The singer also spilled that she had been contacted by Angie’s team who gave her what she described as a “subtle warning” after she made some scathing remarks on Andy Cohen’s, 48, Sirius XM radio show.
After her words were “turned around,” Melissa decided to perform her original song to clear the air. “Every time I say something it gets turned around and twisted. And all of a sudden I’m saying something about [Angelina],” she said. “So, I thought I would do what I do best, and I wrote a song about it today.” Melissa then took out her guitar and asked Kelly Clarkson, 34 — who was also visiting the late-night set, to hold her music as she played.
Strumming away on the guitar, Melissa sung “Fixer Blues,” which she dedicated to Brangelina. “Uh, seems like I said some things / About an old, old, old friend / That’s got some people talking,” she sang. “And I have not seen my friend in over 10 years / And I swear I have never, ever, ever met his wife / I tell you what / I ain’t picking no fight / None of my business who’s wrong or who’s right.” She also mentioned that her opinions were merely hers and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, before finishing with her final line. “So the moral of this story is / Divorce is a bitch, and nobody wins / Let’s no do unto others, and please forgive us our sins.”
We’re not sure how much this song is going to help her case, but Melissa probably felt like she needed to do something after the negative backlash she received only days earlier. When Melissa spoke with Andy on his radio show on Oct. 3, she claimed that the abuse allegations brought against Brad were “completely unfounded.” And she didn’t stop there! “It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it’s being done,” she said. Yikes! No wonder Angelina’s teamed reached out to her! While “Fixer Blues” may smooth things over for fans, we’re guessing Angie’s team won’t be too thrilled with the new song.
HollywoodLifers, what do you think? Do you like Melissa’s original song about Brangelina, or should she have stayed quiet?
