We truly have no words. Sixteen-year-old Antonia Lopez has been accused of killing her newborn baby by tossing it out of a 2nd-floor window shortly after delivering the infant all by herself. Her child died as a result, and now Antonia will be tried as an adult for the murder. Get all the details below.
Antonia Lopez, 16, of Nebraska reportedly gave birth on Sept. 30 all alone in her bedroom. Minutes after her newborn arrived, the teen allegedly threw the child out her second-story window and killed the baby, according to the New York Daily News. Police and other emergency personnel arrived at her Omaha apartment complex around 4 a.m. after receiving multiple calls about an infant tossed from a window, police said in a statement.

Once authorities arrived, emergency responders discovered an adult female performing CPR on a lifeless infant in the apartment complex parking lot. The woman was reportedly Antonia’s mother, who allegedly did not know about the baby until after it was thrown. The baby was then rushed into an ambulance, but died on the way to an area hospital. Antonia was also taken to the hospital.
Even crazier, after Antonia went into labor, which occurred before dawn, she posted on her Facebook page. At 3:40 a.m. the young girl wrote, “Who can do me a huge favor and has a car?” The sentence was followed by three crying emojis. The teen, who was booked into a juvenile detention facility on Oct. 1 for one count of felony child abuse resulting in death, will be charged as an adult, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
The gender of the infant, the cause of the baby’s death and the length of time the teen was pregnant were not made public, however, law enforcement officials have provided some clarity on the baby’s medical status at birth. “The child wasn’t a stillborn,” Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said. “To be booked on that count, the child would have had to have been born alive.”
Antonia’s grandfather, John Barcelona, told KETV that he saw her just days before the incident and had no idea she was even pregnant. “She looked like she was well underweight more than anything else,” he said. “I would’ve never dreamed that she was pregnant. In my head, I just can’t believe it, I can’t believe it.”
This also isn’t Antonia’s first brush with the law. A year ago Lopez and another teen were accused of shoplifting cellphone cases from an Omaha Walmart store and concealing them in a pink purse.
