Another week, another episode of ‘Dancing With The Stars!’ This week: tricks, flips and aerials took over the dance floor on the first ever Cirque du Soleil night! Read our week four recap — and see who got a perfect score!
First up, Calvin Johnson Jr. and Lindsay Arnold danced the Charleston to KURIOS from Cabinet of Curiosities. Julianne Hough called him “twinkle toes.” Bruno Tonioli loved his performance quality but wanted sharper kicks and flicks. Carrie Ann Inaba commended the lifts and his footwork. Len Goodman is in London this week, so he is not at the table! They got a score of 23 out of 30!
Next, Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev dazzled on the dance floor to music from Mystère. The package showed them getting into a fight and Artem saying “the honeymoon is over,” but they pulled it out for the dance! Carrie Ann was surprised by her great intensity and connection with Artem. Julianne told Maureen to trust her partner because “he is turning you into a great dancer.” Maureen broke down in tears and thanked the show for being “a dream world.” They got a 24 out of 30!
Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko danced a ’70s inspired Foxtrot to “Here Comes The Sun” from The Beatles’ LOVE. Carrie Ann said sometimes she looks a tiny bit lost, but said she is wonderful. Julianne said she is a little stiff. Bruno said it was fantastic. They got a 23!
Marilu Henner and Derek Hough performed an intense Paso Doble inspired by KÀ. Julianne said it was beautiful and creative, but said Marilu is too much in her head. Bruno said she needs to match Derek’s intensity. Carrie Ann said she should allow Derek to dance with her more. They got a 21 out of 30.
Next, Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy brought the sex appeal with tunes from the burlesque show Zumanity. They danced a provocative Argentine Tango! After both Julianne and Amber apologized for the “body shaming” drama from last week, Carrie Ann said it was a pleasure to watch her. They got a 24!
Next, Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke proved their prowess to music from “O.” The show centers around a giant pool, so Ryan was right at home during the Viennese Waltz! Carrie Ann said tonight, there was a big improvement. Julianne said he’s on the right track and it was a great dance. The couple got a 22!
Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Allison Holker danced the Tango to music from The Beatles‘ LOVE. It was a complete mess. Julianne said it wasn’t his best dance, but he could come back next week. Bruno agreed it could be better next week. Carrie Ann said he needs more energy — harder, stronger, and sharper moves. They got a disappointing score of 18.
Terra Jolé and Sasha Farber danced the Samba to sounds from “O.” Bruno said she “lights his fire.” Carrie Ann said Terra is in a league of her own. Julianne said she inspires everyone. They got a 25, the highest score of the night and the first 9 of the season!
Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy had smooth moves to music from Michael Jackson ONE. Even with very little practice together, it was absolutely AMAZING. It was my favorite dance of the night! Carrie Ann said every move was perfectly defined: “a star is born.” Julianne said: “Michael Jackson may be the King of Pop but you are the Queen of the ballroom!” Bruno screamed that it was stunning! They got a PERFECT 30!!!!!
Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) and Witney Carson charmed with music from La Nouba. Julianne said his shortcomings actually worked with this dance and the theme. Bruno said it was wonderful. Carrie Ann said he brought his A-game tonight. They got a 23 out of 30!
James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess channeled PARAMOUR (which I saw on Broadway in NYC!) with a quickstep. Bruno said it was a Broadway showstopper with the magic of the movies. Carrie Ann said he brought the magic of the show to life. Julianne said he has so much charisma, he could be a real-life Broadway actor. They got a 28, including a 10 from Bruno!
