OMG! We are SO excited that Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to TV with a new show, and she stopped by ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Sept. 28 to talk up ‘Divorce.’ But instead, SJP dished on how she shockingly wanted to ditch playing her iconic role of Carrie Bradshaw on ‘Sex and the City.’
Oh how we’ve missed the lovely Sarah Jessica Parker, 51, on our small screens ever since Sex and the City ended 12 years ago, and the good news is she’s back with the HBO dramedy Divorce. In a rare west coast visit, she made sure to stop Jimmy Kimmel, 48, to talk up her new project, of which she said she is “Really proud of.”
She dished on how she almost bailed on playing one of the most iconic roles in TV history, as she changed her mind about playing Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City after shooting the pilot for HBO. “I thought it was an interesting role and I loved the script then I completely forgot about it cause I went on to do a play or whatever,” she revealed, “and I ran into someone on the street and they said ‘hey I saw your show’ and I said ‘what show?’ and they said ‘you did a show called Sex and the City‘ and I was like ‘oh right.'”

She said that while she hadn’t seen it, her friend had and said it was really good. After the pilot was a hit, HBO wanted a full season order and that’s when SJP got cold feet! “When they said we’re finally going to do it I was like ‘eh, I don’t know. I feel like the moment passed.'” She said she realizes now she was being foolish at not wanting to commit to playing Carrie Bradshaw week after week and that “wiser people” talked her out of bailing on it. Luckily she said that after the first day on set she never looked back, THANK GOD because we cannot imagine anyone else could ever have played Carrie like she did.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of Sarah’s appearance on Kimmel? Was she every bit as charming as you hoped for?
