Can you believe it’s been 18 years since we were first blessed with Google?! And although the search engine is celebrating the anniversary of its existence with a Google Doodle on Sept. 27, there’s actually some confusion about its actual birthday. What’s the deal?!
If you’ve checked out Google.com on September 27, 2016, you’ll notice there’s a festive video in place of the normal ‘Google’ logo — because the site is celebrating its 18th birthday! Yep, it’s been that long since the search engine was first introduced to the world, although, some users have pointed out that this day of celebration is different from when Google has celebrated in the past.
Since Google started putting up its Google Doodles in 2002, the site has mostly had the birthday Doodle featured on Sept. 27, but some keen users have pointed out that there have been exceptions. For example, in 2005, the Doodle went up on Sept. 26, and the two years before that, it was up on Sept. 7 and 8, respectively.
Plus, as The Guardian reveals, Google.com was registered on Sept. 15, 1997, and filed for incorporation on Sept. 4, 1998, so all these dates are quite different. It definitely seems like Google’s birthday falls sometime within September, but there’s clearly been some confusion about the exact date.
Regardless of when its birthday really is, there’s no denying that Google has a lot to celebrate 18 years after its creation. It’s consistently been the most-used search engine, and millions of people rely on it to gather information. And, of course, with additions like Google Maps, Google Plus and SO many more, the company has become so much more than just a search engine. We’re definitely thankful that it exists and can’t wait to see what comes next — and, maybe, it’ll figure out its own birthday since it’s supposed to know EVERYTHING, right?!
HollywoodLifers, do you think it’s weird that Google doesn’t know its own birthday?
