Will ‘This Is Us’ ever stop surprising us? Well, the short answer is no. While we knew more twists were coming, the end of episode two left us with a huge question. Warning: spoilers ahead.
You’ve been warned: if you haven’t watched the Sept. 27 episode This is Us yet, you probably will not want to continue reading. In the final moments, Randall (Sterling K. Brown)’s doorbell rings and the kids open it to see “Grandma and grandpa.” However, when Randall heads over to say hello to his parents, it’s Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and . . . Miguel.
Yes, she is not still with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). With the children calling him “Grandpa,” we have to assume that they never knew Jack. Midway through this week’s episode, when Jack and Rebecca are in an argument, we see that he gives her a moon necklace. And in the present scene, she still has it on, so it’s safe to say they haven’t split up, and he’s well… dead.
During the episode, we meet Miguel, Jack’s best friend who is straight forward with him after he spends a night out at the bar instead of going home to his wife and three kids. Miguel even comments on how beautiful and perfect his wife is, so the attraction was clearly there but it definitely appeared as just a best friend looking out for his bud. Apparently, not.
So again, it’s safe to assume that it’s a death that happened — especially since Rebecca and Jack seemed to, despite their issues, be one happy couple and incredibly happy parents (I’d say, a 10 or 11).
“He loves his wife. He loves his kids, and he’s a hopeful guy. He’s a good guy,” Milo told HollywoodLife.com during a recent interview about Jack. “I think people can expect, hopefully, a good display of how a good man deals with marriage and fatherhood and career and any of the things that kind of get thrown at these human beings… and how you try to do your best and still keep love involved in your life in every possible way.”
He also said we’d see Jack and Rebecca “through the decades,” which will include “the all encompassing world of a marriage and parenthood and dealing with the curveballs that get thrown at you every day.”
HollywoodLifers, what do you think? Do you think Jack is dead?
