Herman Echevarria, has died at the age of 61, police confirm to E!. Family and employees noticed that he didn’t go to work and was not answering his phone, causing his body to be found on Sept. 26. His family “believes it was a heart attack”, according to a source, but are awaiting the official report from medical examiners. He passed away in his sleep, the Miami Herald reports, police are investigating the cause of Herman’s death.
“The Echevarria family is heartbroken over the sudden passing of our patriarch Herman Echevarria this morning. He was a family man, a hardworking businessman, dedicated to helping others and a pillar of his community that was loved by everyone who’s life he touched,” his ex-wife Alexia, 49, said in a heartfelt statement on her Facebook page. “We ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of grieving.” So sad.
Alexia and Herman split in 2015 after fifteen years together, and recently divorced, according to E!‘s sources. The couple stayed friends, though, and continued their work with Venue magazine, which they founded together. They also starred on The Real Housewives of Miami, and he served as a Hialeah, FL council member for twelve years.
Herman is survived by his children Nelson and Herman Jr., stepchildren Peter and Frankie (from Alexia’s first marriage), his mother and three siblings. Our hearts go out to Alexia and the rest of the family as they deal with this loss.
