Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, is the man police have named the “person of interest” in the NYC bombings that took place in Chelsea Sept. 17 and they have taken into him into custody. Now, ABC News reports that Linden Mayor Derek Armstead told ABC New York station, WABC that a “bar owner” discovered the suspect [Ahmad] sleeping “around 10:30 AM” in the “hallway” of his business in Linden, NJ. James Sarnicki of the Linden Police Department spoke to WABC in the video below, where he detailed the frightening encounter.
In the video above, James said, “When the officer tried to arouse the man in the doorway, he noticed when the man picked up his head, he noticed that the man had a beard on and he looked like the suspect [Ahmad] that was being sought.”
The site reports that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said there is “every reason to believe this was an act of terror.” He told WABC, “He [the officer] realized it was the suspect and, within moments, the suspect fired on him. And thank God that he had his vest on. And I think that was very helpful for him. I think that saved his life.”
