One of the longest running feuds Hollywood made its way to the stage of the 2016 Emmy awards. After Jimmy Kimmel lost his only chance at an Emmy during the Sept. 18 show, his nemesis, Matt Damon, came out to rub it in his face! Click to watch.
Jimmy, 48, had just watched John Oliver, 39, accept the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series (beating Jimmy Kimmel Live! and others) when Matt, 45, sauntered out on stage, eating an apple. “What do you want?” Jimmy said, annoyed to see his long-time enemy.
“Calm down, man. I missed the last category,” Matt asked. “Did you win?” After Jimmy swallowed his pride to admit that he lost, the Jason Bourne star said, “That’s a bummer. But it makes a lot of sense. You must be really bummed out.”
The back-and-forth was embarrassing for Jimmy – but hilarious for everyone watching the Sept. 18 broadcast. Still, even though these two have years of bad blood, Matt tried to have sympathy for his rival’s defeat. “Can we cheer Jimmy up? He’s a big loser – big round of applause.” Matt even went in for a bro-hug, but Jimmy wasn’t having it. Matt had the last laugh by sending a message to Jimmy – and his mom.
Ouch! Gotta feel bad for Jimmy. This is the latest shot in a 10-plus-year feud. During the third season of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jimmy made the off-handed joke, “I want to apologize to matt Damon. We ran out of time.” The joke got some big laughs, per Time, and he continued the joke for over a year.
After a staged fight on a 2006 episode was cut for time, the feud was kicked up a notch in 2008 when Jimmy’s then-girlfriend, Sarah Silverman, 45, released a viral music video entitled “I’m F***ing Matt Damon.”
The two have traded insults like they were Katy Perry, 31, and Taylor Swift, 26. Matt even tried to get the jump on Jimmy by enlisting the help of his friend, Ben Affleck, 43. The Batman V Superman star wore a very suspicious looking coat on Jimmy’s “After the Oscars” special in Feb. 28. It turned out Ben tried to smuggle Matt onto the set! Busted!
While this was the latest shot in this feud, it won’t be the last. HollywoodLifers – what did you think about Matt’s appearance at the Emmys?
