Uh oh! Of course, things always get a little out of hand at awards shows, but this is kind of unacceptable. Several talented actors and stars were noticeably left out of the Emmys ‘In Memoriam’ segment, including tragically killed ‘The Voice’ star Christina Grimmie. Here’s the scoop.
This is so sad! The ‘In Memoriam’ segment of any awards show is always a solemn moment, and the Emmys tribute as especially touching. Tori Kelly sang a beautiful rendition of “Hallelujah” and played her acoustic guitar while the screen behind her reminded us of some of the amazing stars we lost in 2016, from Garry Marshall to Alan Rickman and more. Unfortunately, they also forgot some seriously notable names.
Christina Grimmie was a young YouTuber who was tragically killed at a fan event in Orlando in June 2016. However, the young artist got her fame from performing as a contestant on The Voice. She was so beloved by the fans, the judges and her fellow contestants, but somehow even though her death was highly publicized, she was not remembered in the slideshow.
She wasn’t the only one forgotten. Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward was tragically killed in a plane crash while working on a documentary in Aug., but there was no mention of his name. Also left out was Chyna, the WWE wrestling star who sadly passed. The former athlete was only 46 years old when she was found dead in her California home, apparently from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. So so sad! Some others forgotten include Theresa Saldana, Pat Harrington, Maurice White, Gloria De Haven, and James Noble. The Emmys may have forgotten to include these amazing stars, but we will never forget their talent or their gifts. Rest in peace, guys!
