It’s officially here! Fall TV is back, and with so many new shows added to the lineup, we know that you’re struggling (since we are too) with choosing which shows to watch live. So, we’ve put together a guide for you, so you won’t miss out on a post-episode Twitter debate by watching the wrong show live!
Mondays at 8PM
What’s on: Dancing With the Stars / Kevin Can Wait and Man With a Plan / Gotham / The Voice / Supergirl
What to watch live: Dancing with the Stars or The Voice — whichever you like better; the live shows are what are the most buzzed about.
What to DVR: Gotham and/or Supergirl; but if you don’t want to be spoiled by big deaths/returns, I’d advise watching the night of or somehow staying away from the internet until you can watch.
Tuesday at 8PM
What’s on: The Middle and American Housewife / NCIS / Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl / The Voice / The Flash
What to watch live: The Flash, since again, those superhero shows are so hashtag-friendly, it’s nice to be part of the conversation.
What to DVR: The Voice. The results air on Tuesdays so you can basically fast-forward through the most of it. Also, New Girl, because it’s hysterical.
Tuesday at 9PM
What’s on: Fresh Off the Boat & The Real O’Neals / Bull / Scream Queens / This Is Us / No Tomorrow
What to watch live: This is Us. This is Us. This is Us. Did I mention This is Us is the can’t-miss show of the fall?
What to DVR: Give Bull and No Tomorrow a chance, but if you can’t watch until the weekend when you play catch up, it won’t be the end of the world. Try watching Scream Queens night of, as you’ll see memes of the best one-liners the next day on Twitter anyways. Plus, the new cast is sure to mix it up this year.
Wednesday at 9PM
What’s on: Modern Family & Black-ish / Criminal Minds / Empire / Law & Order: SVU / Frequency
What to watch live: Empire, because it’s Empire and a show we all look forward to week after week.
What to DVR: If you’re like me and DVR every week of Law & Order even when watching live, that’s the go-to one to tape — you can watch literally whenever. However, Frequency is a guilty pleasure this season and it’s likely to get you hooked. You could even DVR a few episodes and binge this one — it may be easier to understand that way, too.
Wednesday at 10PM
What’s on: Designated Survivor / Code Black / American Horror Story / Chicago P.D. / Younger and Impastor
What to watch live: This is a tough one with so much good TV, but my vote for live goes to Designated Survivor. Keifer Sutherland’s new show is great and each will leave you wanting more, so it’s likely that you’ll be counting down for this one to come back each week.
What to DVR: American Horror Story is easier for me to watch in the daylight anyways; Chicago P.D. is incredible — and this season will be no different — but it’ll be just as emotional and action-packed later that night. Younger is a weekend binge for me.
Thursday at 9PM
What’s on: Notorious / Mom and Life In Pieces / Pitch / Project Runway / Chicago Med / Supernatural
What to watch live: This is the other toughie for me, but nothing comes ahead of Pitch — you’ll be really captured and literally watching the clock until 9PM; however, I’d watch Notorious right after. Not only is it in Scandal‘s placeholder, but it’ll give you just as many OMG moments as Shonda’s shows do.
What to DVR: Chicago Med and Supernatural can both be watched over the weekend (but duh, should be watched).
Sunday at 9PM
What’s on: Secrets and Lies / The Walking Dead / Family Guy / Last Man On Earth / Westworld / Shameless
What to watch live: I mean, this one’s simple: The Walking Dead will one hundred percent be spoiled for you whether you own a computer, cell phone, or not. Someone on the street will tell you who Negan killed. Trust me. So do yourself a favor and watch that one live. But skip Talking Dead after and watch Secrets and Lies.
What to DVR: Give Westworld a shot — it’ll either be your thing or it won’t, and for Shameless, it either is already or not at all. Then choose your comedy of your liking (for me, it’s always Last Man on Earth).
