Oh no! Domingos Montagner, a famous Brazilian TV star, was announced dead on Sept. 15, after he reportedly went swimming with a co-star and tragically drowned in a freak accident! Read all the heartbreaking details, right here.
Hearts all across the world are breaking right now! It deeply saddens us to say that Domingos Montagner, 54, who was best known for his popular Brazilian soap opera, Velho Chico, was found dead on Sept. 15. After shooting an episode, Domingos and his co-star, Camila Pitanga, went for a swim in the Sao Francisco river when a strong current kicked in and pulled the actor underwater, according to a new Associated Press report. The water current allegedly pulled Domingos about 1,000 feet downstream, which is where his body was found, trapped between two rocks.
As for Camila, she thankfully survived, and told the police that she was able to pull herself up onto a rock. She tried her best to reach down and pull Domingos to safety, but was unsuccessful, the AP report continues. Upon seeing that Domingos was being pulled away by the current, she cried for help to see if any locals nearby could save him, but ironically, they didn’t react because they thought the co-stars were still FILMING!
“[The actors] thought the area they picked to swim was safe, but, in fact, it’s one of the most dangerous places to bathe,” told Antonio Francisco Filho, a government official, to the news agency. In even more twisted news, in the previous episode of Velho Chico, Domingos’ character was actually shot and left for dead in the Sao Francisco river! How freaky is that?! Domingos was an adventurous circus performer before his acting career took off, and lives on in the loving memories of his wife, Luciana Lima, and their three children.
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts go out to Domingo’s friends and family.
