Carolina Herrera proved that she is an enduringly exciting force of fashion with her dramatic Spring 2017 collection that transformed denim into its chicest, most dressed up look yet.
Has denim ever looked this ballgown ready? I doubt it, and the fabric should be giving a well-deserved thanks to the bold vision of designer Carolina Herrera. A jaw-droppingly gorgeous strapless denim ballgown opened Herrera’s Spring 2017 show which celebrated her 35 years in business.
With it’s fitted corset top, side flounces and long-flowing skirt, the opening piece was a completely modern take on the all-out ballgown. We can only hope that a Herrera-loving Hollywood star, like Taylor Swift, Amy Adams or Renee Zellweger blows everyone away by dazzling in it on a major award show red carpet.
But, this wasn’t Herrera’s only exciting denim design. She married a denim tied halter top with a satin metallic printed long skirt for another big night out number. And denim was also transformed into a sleek coat, dressed as a staple for busy working women.
Back on the ballgown front, Carolina honed in on another wardrobe staple – the color combo of black and white. Black and white gingham was cut into an elegant strapless with strong vertical black and white stripes partnered with a ruffled bodice and long flowing skirt. It is a perfect choice for a woman who likes to make a bold entrance. She could never be missed!
Now, don’t forget that Carolina has a way with white. She designed Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart’s) wedding dress in Breaking Dawn: Part I. One of my favorite new Herrera designs was also white. A sleek, slinky body-skimming simple white evening column with a pleated halter top – perfection!
And Carolina proved, at 77, she’s ready to take a walk on the wilder side with a ‘tin foil’ satin fabric one shouldered evening gown. It’s a look that could rock the next Grammy’s red carpet.
Taylor Swift, did you catch that? Congrats, Carolina on 35 fabulous years!
