Moana’s home is in great danger, and she must team up with the legendary demi-god Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to help save it from doom. When she finds him, he’s not exactly what she’s expecting. At first, he’s not so sure about taking a journey with a someone he deems as just a “little girl,” but Moana is determined. She’s not giving up without a fight.
He throws her into the water, and she pops back into the canoe with a little help from the sea. “The ocean is my friend,” she tells Maui. You got that right!
Over the course of their journey, Maui and Moana become best buds. He risks his life to save hers. He’s not afraid of the big bad. For him, it’s just “Maui time!” The end of the trailer features Maui getting some blow darts in his butt cheek, and he’s not happy about it.
“A lot of times when you see a movie you try not to get drunk on your own wine,” Dwayne told Good Morning America on Sept. 15. after premiering the trailer. “But the movie is really good and I can’t wait for everybody to see it.”
Moana is voiced by newcomer Auli’l Cravalho, 15. Alan Tudyk, 45, and Nicole Scherzinger, 38, also star. Moana will be released in theaters this Thanksgiving. From now until the movie’s release, the cast and Walt Disney Animation Studios will be participating in #MOANAMondays.
