Wait, didn’t Lil Wayne retire?! After announcing that he was done with music, the rapper showed up to perform with Chance The Rapper on ‘Ellen,’ and it was pretty darn epic. Watch here!
Chance The Rapper, 23, brought out all the stops for his debut on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Besides just sitting down with the talk show host for an interview, he also performed his song “No Problem” on the show, and he brought some friends with him — 2 Chainz, 39, and Lil Wayne, 33!
The 23-year-old, who is known for being an independent artist and refusing to sign to a label, kicked things off by sending a message to any record company who wants to sign him — he’s still not interested. He burst through a label meeting and totally trashed the room, then went right into rapping the first verse of his track. Eventually, 2 Chainz came out, then Wayne joined them for his verse. The whole thing was jam-packed with energy, and the guys looked to be having a blast!
But we have to say, we were pretty shocked to see Wayne so publicly performing again — because just one day before this was taped, he confirmed that he was retiring! The rapper has been in an ongoing feud with his former boss, Birdman, 47, claiming the producer owes him millions of dollars. The 33-year-old did say he wasn’t going to stop creating or stay out of the studio, but he did claim he was done with a career in music. So what was he doing performing the very next day!?
Of course, rumors that the rapper was ending his career have been swirling since 2014, and it obviously hasn’t fully happened. He even performed with Drake, 29, during a concert on Sept. 4, so he clearly just can’t stay away from the stage!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of the performance? Are you surprised Wayne performed even though he said he was retiring?
