Uh oh! Ivanka Trump has found herself playing serious defense on a sensitive topic in her father’s new child care plan, which she helped craft. She got super testy when a reporter asked her why the plan doesn’t include gay dads, so keep reading for her shocking response.
We aren’t used to seeing the normally calm and cool Ivanka Trump, 34, get tongue-tied and upset when defending her dad, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s policies. But when it comes to the topic of their new maternity and child care plans, she clashed hard with a Cosmopolitan reporter who pressed her about why the policy doesn’t include parents that are same-sex couples.
The magazine’s Prachi Gupta rightfully asked about why gay dads aren’t specifically included in the plan that she helped craft. Ivanka jumped in and said that, “the original intention of the plan is to help mothers in recovery in the immediate aftermath of childbirth,” but Prachi could see that she planned on totally evading the subject. So she went in hard and direct!
“So I just want to be clear that, for same-sex adoption, where the two parents are both men, they would not be receiving special leave for that because they don’t need to recover or anything?” Prachi asked. “Well, those are your words, not mine. Those are your words. The plan, right now, is focusing on mothers, whether they be in same-sex marriages or not,” the businesswoman responded. She completely refused to answer the question that was posed so perfectly.
The interview went from bad to worse when Prachi then moved to the topic of when her father made a remark in 2004 that pregnancy made things inconvenient for workplace business and by then Ivanka had enough.
“So I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions, and I think my father has put forth a very comprehensive and really revolutionary plan to deal with a lot of issues. So I don’t know how useful it is to spend too much time with you on this,” she told Prachi, clearly looking to shut things down ASAP as the interview was spiraling out of control. After answering one more question about the funding of the child care plan, Ivanka was SO over the interview, shutting it down saying, “I’m going to jump off, I have to run. I apologize.” Well, at least she ended things with a classy sorry for cutting things so short.
