Say hello to Jacob Whitesides! The singer-songwriter is taking the up-and-coming music scene by storm with his amazing tunes and adorable smile. Not familiar with who he is? Find out more about Jacob right here!
1. If you’re an X Factor fan, you may just recognize him.
Jacob first gained popularity online after appearing on The X Factor at just 14 years old. Although the now 18-year-old didn’t make it very far in the competition, Jacob told Z100’s Elvis Duran that it was a “really good learning experience.”
2. He just dropped his debut album.
Although Jacob has been making music for years and has released three EPs, he celebrated the release of his first full-length studio album titled Why? on Sept. 9. He even got the chance to appear on the Today show to perform a new single off the record called “Lovesick”!
3. He’s the CEO of a record company.
Jacob may just be starting out in his career, but he opted to start his own record label, Double U Records, and release his first album on it rather than a major company. He told Today‘s Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie that it was more important to him to be part of the “little things that artists get left out of” than to be on a big-name label. Pretty bold for such a young artist!
4. He’s covered everyone from John Mayer to One Direction — and gotten support from Liam Payne!
Before focusing on his own original material, Jacob shared covers of famous songs on YouTube and even released an EP with only cover songs on it. After Jacob posted a video of himself singing 1D’s “One Thing,” Liam Payne gave him a shout-out! Talk about some superstar support!
5. He absolutely adores his fans.
Jacob is constantly sharing pictures with his fans on his Instagram, and loves engaging with them on any form of social media. Plus, part of the reason he wanted to start his own company was to lower ticket for his fans who may not be able to spend a lot of money to see him. Aww, how could you not love a musician like that?!
