Summer is coming to an end, HollywoodLifers! The Harvest Moon will be appearing this Sept., meaning the fall season is right around the corner! Do you want to see vibrant colors fill the sky? Get the details on when and where to watch nature’s beauty unfold here!
The Harvest Moon is set to rise on Sept. 16, painting the sky with gorgeous orange and red hues. It’s such a special occasion, since it’s a little bit different every year. For those who want to catch the sight in all it’s glory, it’s scheduled to show up as early as 3:05 p.m! “It symbolizes the changing seasons from summer’s end to autumn’s beginning,” according to Accuweather. Wow! This year’s Harvest Moon is also expected to go later into the night!
The even cooler aspect is how in the evening, the sun, Earth and moon will align to create the appearance of a straight line! This will definitely be an epic photograph opportunity, since it will cast a shadow on the moon, also known as a penumbral lunar eclipse.
This tradition has a deep-rooted history, as the phenomenon actually used to benefit farmers back in the day! Many used to use the full moon before the fall to harvest their crops in Sept. in the Northern Hemisphere, which is where the name originated. Since the moon had such a low angle in the sky, it allegedly allowed harvest to last all night. Talk about utilizing your resources!
The upcoming spectacle will also be the final eclipse of the year and a treat to many! People from Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa will all be able to see it. The Harvest moon usually occurs when the moon is “close to the autumnal equinox,” and this year, it will fall on Sept. 22, “so the full moon on Sept. 16 is considered a harvest moon,” according to NatureWorldNews. We cant wait to check it out ourselves!
