Dr. Larry Nassar, a former doctor for the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team, has been accused of sexual abuse by two Olympic athletes. The women claim they were molested by him on multiple occasions in the late 90s and early 2000s.
One of the Olympians making accusations against Dr. Larry Nassar is listed as Jane Doe in her lawsuit, but the other has identified herself as Rachael Denhollander, who claims the team doctor massaged her genitals, penetrated her vagina and anus with his finger and thumb and massaged her breasts. This all went down over a series of five sessions when she was receiving treatment for a lower back injury in 2000, according to Rachael.
Rachael just filed her lawsuit with the Michigan State University Police two weeks ago, and admitted that she was “ashamed,” “embarrassed” and “confused” by what allegedly happened at the time, when she was just 15 years old. The Jane Doe lawsuit was filed on Sept. 8 in California. She also sued USA Gymnastics, claiming the organization didn’t act on suspicions about Dr. Nassar’s conduct.
Dr. Nassar was a faculty member at Michigan State University, although he was suspended on Aug. 30, and served as a doctor for the U.S. Gymnastics team for four Olympic Games. He “adamantly denies any misconduct at this or any other time,” his lawyer told IndyStar, when presented with the lawsuit.
“Dr. Nassar is no longer affiliated with USA Gymnastics,” the org said in a statement. “Upon learning of athlete concerns, USA Gymnastics immediately notified law enforcement. Since then, we have cooperated fully with the law enforcement agency, including refraining from making further statements or taking any other action that might interfere with the agency’s investigation. We are grateful to the athletes for coming forward to share their concerns.”
