There’s one dance that Ryan Lochte didn’t expect to do last night: he had to shimmy away from two protestors as they stormed the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ stage on Sept. 12, causing pandemonium. Here’s what we know about the two individuals that attempted to attack Ryan before they were tackled by security!
Two audience members ambushed everyone onstage in the Sept. 12 episode of Dancing with the Stars, successfully interrupting Ryan Lochte‘s debut on the show and scaring everyone in the room. Talk about a ballroom blitz — here’s everything you need to know about the people who tried to attack Ryan in the middle of receiving his score from the judges.
First, the two men have been identified as Barzeen Soroudi and Sam Sotoodeh, CNN confirms. “They were arrested on trespassing; this was a private person’s arrest as the security at the venue made the arrest,” a spokesperson for the LAPD told the outlet. “We just accepted [them] and booked them.” While the show cut to commercial when Soroudi and Sotoodeh reached the dance floor, audience members were able to record the incident. You can watch videos of the attempted attack right here, and it’s clear in the footage that they both wore T-shirts with red slashed-out circles over the name “Lochte”.
Liliana Preciado, LAPD PIO, tells HollywoodLife.com: “We booked two individuals, Barzeen Foroudi and Sam Sotoodeh, on a private persons arrest for misdemeanor trespassing yesterday.” Additionally, a source tells us EXCLUSIVELY that “after spending the night in jail in Los Angeles, the suspects have been released today, Sept. 13”.
According to the LAPD, the two men said they were protesting Ryan due to the infamous gas station incident in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Summer Olympics. They apparently felt Ryan’s actions “endangered Americans”. They have since been charged with misdemeanor trespassing, per the LAPD.
Finally, CNN camera crews then captured the individuals outside of the building, being led away in handcuffs. Ryan has since said he is “shocked” over the whole thing, and DWTS host Tom Bergeron admitted, “It was really unnerving and [I] applaud our security team for making it very short.” We’re so glad everyone is okay.
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked by this whole incident?
