Things took a dramatic turn when protesters stormed the ballroom after Ryan Lochte performed on the premiere of ‘DWTS’ Sept. 12 — and the Olympian was beyond distraught about the whole situation. Watch his emotional interview after the show here!
Ryan Lochte, 32, was completely caught off guard when two men wearing anti-Lochte shirts ran toward him during the Dancing With The Stars premiere. After a commerical break, he recovered enough to remain on camera and receive his critiques, but even after the show, he was still feeling hurt by the incident.
But, at the end of the day, he’s not letting it affect him as the competition progresses. “I looked at Cheryl [Burke] and she just smiled and said, “You just did what you said you can’t do. You danced in front of millions’ And I was like, ‘You’re right.'” He added that he plans on just putting this scary incident behind him and focusing on dancing.
Security quickly handled the situation onstage, tackling the protesters to the ground and having them arrested outside the studio. In the audience, Derek Hough found another group of hecklers, who were booing Ryan and shouting, “LIAR!” at him, and he had them tossed out, as well. Obviously, the jeerers are still upset about the Olympian lying about being robbed in Rio, but, come on — the ballroom is no place to take that out on him!
Meanwhile, Ryan actually danced pretty well, and earned a score of 24 from the judges on his Foxtrot. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of protesters storming the stage during Ryan’s performance? What about his reaction?
