How terrifying! Ryan Lochte was ‘close to tears’ after protesters rushed the stage during the ‘Dancing With The Stars’ premiere on Sept. 12. HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVE details on exactly how Ryan felt once the dust had settled after he was nearly attacked. Get the scoop here.
Ryan Lochte went through a lot during the premiere of Dancing With The Stars on Sept. 12, but has luckily lived to tell the tale. The show was forced to cut to an unplanned commercial break after two protesters rushed the stage following the Olympic swimmer’s performance with his partner Cheryl Burke. During the break, one of the protesters – who both wore Lochte t-shirts with a red circle and line through the name – went in front of host Tom Bergeron to yell into the camera. The protesters were taken away by security, after professional dancer Derek Hough ran over, yelling, “get them out of here.”
The whole thing was extremely shocking, as Cheryl appeared to be in tears, with Ryan looking shaken up, even though the audience was chanting his name. “So many feelings are going through my head,” Ryan said to Tom when the program continued. We can only imagine! “Ryan was backstage and close to tears,” Jana Kramer , Gleb Savchenko‘s partner this season told PEOPLE following the upsetting event. “Everyone makes mistakes and I really hope America gets to see the guy we are all getting to know, which is a really, really nice guy.”
We’re so sorry to hear how upset the incident made Ryan, but we’ve heard he’s doing better now. “The situation at first was terrifying and everyone was on edge but he appeared to be fine shortly afterwards,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He is doing fine, enjoying the rest of the show and the experience of the night. It happened so fast, but he has been laughing with Cheryl and he is in good spirits.”
We’re glad Ryan was able to shake things off, but obviously it was a traumatic experience. “I was backstage and when I heard the commotion I ran to the side of the stage and I was just in shock. I couldn’t believe it was happening. I think it’s a shame that people would feel the need to do that. Ryan is just a guy who is coming here to entertain and get a fresh start and it’s sad that such a happy night of dance was disrupted like that,” professional dancer Lindsay Arnold said. Hopefully, Ryan will have much better experiences going forward on the show.
