Have you never made a mistake in your life? That’s my question to anyone who’s stubborn enough to hold Ryan Lochte’s past against him as he competes on ‘DWTS.’ This show is about dancing and growing, not having to continuously apologize for something completely irrelevant to the show — and voters need to realize that.
Am I Ryan Lochte’s biggest fan? By all means, no. When he was caught lying about being robbed in Rio, I was right there with the majority of the country, slamming him for doing something so ridiculous and unnecessary. But Dancing With The Stars isn’t about that — it’s about seeing if this guy has any skills on the dance floor.
Sure, on top of being good at dancing, you also have to be personable and willing to show a different side of yourself , but that’s exactly what Ryan did during the Season 23 premiere on Sept. 12. It was beyond evident that he and Cheryl Burke worked incredibly hard to put together a Foxtrot that would impress the judges and America…and when they got out on the floor, that’s just what they did.
Of course, all that was taken away when lame protesters stormed the stage, terrifying him and his partner and completely taking away that moment of accomplishing something he never thought he’d be able to do. Not only was it scary, it was so uncalled for and absurd, and Ryan absolutely did NOT deserve it.
You can hate Ryan all you want, but last night, he proved that he’s willing to work hard at this, and that’s what the show is all about. I certainly will never be the head of the Ryan Lochte Fan Club, but I am a fan of Dancing With The Stars, and Ryan definitely did not disappoint when it came to doing what he’s supposed to on the show. He is being punished for his actions in Rio with a ten-month suspension, but he does NOT deserved to be penalized by the voters on DWTS — vote based on the DANCING, people!
HollywoodLifers, do you think voters are going to punish Ryan for his past? Will you be voting for him based on his dancing?
