Nine months after Michael Galeota’s tragic and unexpected passing, his cause of death has finally been revealed. The former Disney star’s death certificate was made public on Sept. 12, and it turns out that a history of illness lead to his untimely passing in January.
Michael Galeota’s death certificate, obtained by TMZ, reveals that he died of natural causes, however, he also suffered from heart disease stemming from a long history of high blood pressure. The documents confirm that he had Atherosclerotic Heart Disease at the time of his death, and that he also suffered from hypertension.
Atherosclerosis is a condition that involves the arteries being blocked and clogged, affecting blood flow through the organ and to the rest of the body. Michael had been struggling with high cholesterol at the time of his death, which is a main cause of this heart disease. He was also battling diverticulitis, which is a condition that involves the inflammation of the digestive tract.
Michael starred on the Disney channel show The Jersey from 1999-2004. After noticing some abdominal pain in early January, he went to the hospital, but left early against his doctor’s wishes. When friends didn’t hear from him for several days, one went to check on him, and found him unconscious on the living room floor. He reportedly hadn’t been following medical advice to treat his high cholesterol and hypertension, which clearly proved to take a toll.
After his death, it was also reported that the 31-year-old had a history of struggling with alcohol, and had three DUIS in the 10 years before his death. He’d also done jail time for alcohol-related incidents.
