Christian Siriano just proved that he is the more democratic of American designers. His Spring 2017 collection- in brilliant turquoise, orange, black and white just showed drop-dead looks for ALL women.
First, Christian Siriano, 30, came to the rescue of statuesque actress and SNL comedienne, Leslie Jones, when she lamented on Twitter that no designers wanted to dress her for the premier of her big film, Ghostbusters. Christian tweeted right back an enthusiastic, ‘ YAAAAAASSSSSS’, to her and then came forward with a stunning off-the-shoulder gown with a front slit, that fit her like a glove. She looked stupendous!
Then, Michelle Obama had all of America talking about her supremely chic blue dress at the DNC when she gave her profoundly inspiring speech in support of Hillary Clinton. The dress by Christian was as big a hit as the speech.
What Christian Siriano demonstrated with both of these eye-popping looks was that he can make real women, and not just glamazon models, look beautiful and stylish for their everyday lives and special events.
His newest collection for Spring 2017 continues his inclusive vision. Inspired by the timeless style of the former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and her vacations in Capri in the late ’60s and early ’70s, Christian showed a plethora of powerful ladylike looks. His shoulder-baring white and printed summer dresses could be worn in the office by any career woman today.
And, speaking of shoulders, Christian Siriano has made them a key focus in his collection. And hooray for that! No matter what your height or body shape, all it takes is a few shoulder presses to have an impressive pair of your own.
Christian cuts dresses halter style, goes strapless and has one-shoulder sexily peeking out while the other is covered, all incorporated into his Spring 2017 collection. He has designed strapless gowns married with soft draping sleeves that start half-way down the arm. Shoulders peek out from half or full capes and from underneath dramatic bow shoulder straps. After all the X-rated bare body parts we’ve seen revealed on so many recent runways, it’s completely refreshing to see shoulders celebrated.
And then, there were the much needed & uber-flattering curvy girl looks presented on plus size 6 models. Project Runway alum Tim Gunn recently wrote a Washington Post opinion piece slamming the fashion industry for ignoring the style needs of plus-size women.
“I love the American fashion industry, but it has a lot of problems, and one of them is the baffling way it has turned its back on plus-size women,” deplored Gunn.
Well, Christian Siriano is not one of those designers. He featured five plus-size models in his show and they looked fabulous in dresses, pants and gowns that flattered their curves with keyhole cutouts, slits and cropped pants.
It was a collection that Michelle Obama, Leslie Jones and real women of all shapes and sizes would love!
