Here’s a side of Celine Dion you’ve never heard! The 48-year-old singer has quite the range, but we could never image that she’d go this route — and we love it. Watch her epic Ellen appearance.
“You sing these ballads all the time, and I want you to keep growing as an artist, so we put some rap songs in the prompter,” Ellen DeGeneres told Celine Dion on her show, airing on Sept. 12. “All you need to do is sing the words! The words will come up, and your pianist is here!” First up is “Hot in Herre” by Nelly, and in true Celine manor, she yells the words in her very deep voice.
“My career’s gonna end tonight,” she says when the prompter gives her the next song . . . “Shots” by LMFAO ft. Lil Jon. She also kind of went into Sia‘s “Chandelier” and it was hysterical, but Ellen stopped her and moved her on to the next.
“Work Bi-ch” was next, and I mean, who doesn’t want to see Celine do Britney Spears? However, instead of “bi-ch” she said, work “better.” She also added a little hip pop — quite the replacement for that chest pump! She ended the game with Missy Elliot’s “Work It,” and I have to say — I’d totally download her version!
Celine was on the show to promote her album, Encore un Soir, specifically, her new single, “Recovering,” which was dedicated to her late husband, Rene Angélil.
“As an artist to feel confident and to have experience enough and to keep going,” she told Ellen. “And I‘m well because he’s not suffering anymore. Because the hardest thing is not to lose somebody you love but to see them suffer. So for me to know that he is in a place where he doesn’t suffer anyone makes me feel way better.”
