Her reign as Miss America may be over, but Betty Cantrell has a whole new reason to celebrate now — she’s engaged! The former pageant queen announced the news at the 2017 event, just before handing the crown over to Savvy Shields. Congratulations!
Betty Cantrell, 22, is engaged! The winner of the 2016 Miss America pageant passed off her title to 2017 winner, Savvy Shields, on Sept. 11, and that very same day, she excitedly took to Instagram to reveal the big news in her personal life.
“And now finally I can say my Fiance!” she wrote, alongside a photo of herself with her man, Spencer Maxwell. “To the man who let me be Miss America for a year, to the man who is moving to Nashville with me to help me achieve my dreams as a country music singer, to the man who selflessly lets me shine, to the man who never gave up on me, to the love of my life. Forever and always, your dreams are my dreams. I love you Spinny.”
In the pic, Betty snuggles up to Spencer while carefully placing her left hand on his chest, showing off the massive sparkler he gave her when he popped the question. In another pic, the 22-year-old gives a close-up view of the ring, which is a simple, cushion cut stone atop a gold band — and it’s BIG!
Betty and Spencer met in March 2015, six months before she was crowned Miss America. However, as she held the title, that was her complete focus, especially as far as the public was concerned. Now, the couple is free to openly flaunt their relationship, and we couldn’t be happier for them!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Betty’s engagement ring? Were you surprised by her decision to reveal the news on the night of Miss America?
