The contestants have voted, and the Miss Congeniality award at the 2017 Miss America pageant goes to — Miss Minnesota, Madeline Van Ert! Her competitors officially think she’s the friendliest gal in the bunch and we couldn’t be happier for her.
What an exciting day for Madeline Van Ert! The Minnesota representative for Miss America was officially named Miss Congeniality by her fellow competitors, which is an incredible honor. Even though Madeline didn’t make it to the Top 15 during the televised event, she was still rewarded for being such a good and honorable friend to the other 51 contestants.
Since Madeline was eliminated from the competition so early, we didn’t get to see much of her during the show, but clearly she made an impact amongst the women competing. In the end, it was Miss Arkansas, Savvy Shields, who won the title of Miss America, with Miss South Carolina and Miss New York coming in as the runner-up and first runner-up, respectively. All-in-all, it was a great night, and all the ladies should consider themselves winners for simply making it to the final competition!
Madeline is a student studying Political Science and Latin at the University of Minnesota, where she also works as an assistant to the Law school’s Dean, along with interning for the Minnesota State Legislature. She is a prime fixture in her local community, mostly advocating for the arts and making children more aware of arts education through her program, The Arts Project. She also urges the youth to volunteer more in the community and works with local school districts to promote volunteer efforts. Talk about keeping busy and making a difference, right?!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Miss Minnesota was the right choice for the winner of Miss Congeniality? Do you wish she went further in the competition?
