Lady liberty is here! Miss America was officially crowned on September 11 after the live competition at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Meet your new Miss America . . .
Congratulations, Miss Arkansas! Savvy Shields is the new Miss America. The 21-year old is a senior at the University of Arkansas and is currently majoring in Art with a minor in Business. Savvy’s talent during the competition was a jazz dance to a song from SMASH, and we couldn’t help but smile but look at her face the entire time.
She was also asked a question by Gabby Douglas, to describe her thoughts on Hillary Clinton — a task she did very well. During the evening wear part of the night, she strutted her stuff in a long, black gown that she loved so much she said she’d wear to her wedding — and we don’t blame her!
The new Miss America was crowned by last year’s Miss America, Betty Cantrell. The pageant this year was hosted by Chris Harrison and Sage Steele, and included a star-studded panel of judges: Gabby Douglas, Laura Marano, Cole Swindell, Sara Foster, Ciara, and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes.
The winner was part of an amazing top ten, including: Miss Texas, Miss California, Miss Mississippi, Miss Washington, Miss Arkansas, Miss Tennessee, Miss New York, Miss South Carolina, Miss Maryland and Miss Iowa. The fourth runner up went to Miss Mississippi; third runner up was Miss Washington; second runner up was Miss New York; and the first runner up was Miss South Carolina.
