Whoops! ‘The Walking Dead’ EP Greg Nicotero dropped major spoilers ahead of the show’s season 7 premiere. He spilled in an all-new interview justifying the season 6 finale cliffhanger that there were MULTIPLE DEATHS in the shocking finale. Oh no…
“If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in season 7 the way they need to,” Greg told Entertainment Weekly. “And the thing that I think a lot of people will get out of it is how that moment changes the entire makeup of our universe within a split second. And it’s that moment that launches our entire season 7 into that direction.”
The Walking Dead season 6 ended with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) taking his bat Lucille to someone’s head. Now we know there’s not just one death in that terrifying moment. The most logical person to bite the dust is Maggie (Lauren Cohan), since she’s carrying her and Glenn’s child. Over the past few months, everyone’s been wondering who died, as if it’s one person. Maybe the reason Greg said “deaths” is because Maggie and the baby die at the hands of Negan. One swing, two deaths.
Maggie dying would be the perfect twist on the comics. In The Walking Dead comics, Glenn is the one killed by Negan’s bat. However, Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn) and Josh McDermitt (Eugene) sent a birthday video to Demi Lovato, 24, from the set in Aug. 2016, which basically confirmed they’re still alive.
Adding more fuel to the fire, Andrew admitted to EW that he felt “sick,” “angry” and “frustrated” after reading the finale script. Killing off a pregnant woman, who also happens to be a beloved character, would make anyone feel sick. The Walking Dead season 7 premieres Oct. 23 on AMC.
