This is SO beautiful! While animals obviously can’t speak English, a touching video of an orangutan reacting to a pregnant woman’s baby bump just goes to show that parenthood is a universal language. Watch as the orangutan gets super emotional over the woman’s belly, and prepare yourself to be amazed!
In the minute-long clip, an expectant mother can be seen looking at a particularly large orangutan through a glass window at a zoo. Suddenly the animal becomes fixated on her belly, and as the woman gets closer to the glass, the orangutan seemingly gets emotional about the tiny life within the mom-to-be!
The orangutan softly caresses her belly over the glass and at one point even kisses her stomach! Talk about an amazing thing to witness. There’s no doubt the large creature knows that this woman is pregnant and will soon be a mom. But we’re not super surprised, because after all, orangutans — like gorillas — are super humanlike and very intelligent and emotional beings.
And as crazy as it may sound, this isn’t even the first video of an orangutan kissing a woman’s baby bump that has made waves on the Internet. An orangutan at the Colchester Zoo actually surprised a couple from Essex when it too kissed a pregnant woman’s belly through the glass window in July 2015.
Later in a Facebook post, the zoo confirmed that the great ape, named Rajang, is “particularly” fascinated by baby bumps. “He loves belly buttons, scars and of course baby bumps! His inquisitive way means he loves to interact with visitors particularly those who might be expecting!” the zoo wrote. Pretty sweet, right? And while it hasn’t been revealed where this latest video was taken, it may have even been at the same zoo!
But either way, it’s abundantly clear that no matter what species you may be, motherhood is always a beautiful thing that is cherished and understood by all.
