Yikes! Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda has copped a plea deal that will send him away to jail for up to seven years on murder conspiracy charges, but it spared him a possible 25 years behind bars that he could have received in a jury trial. Keep reading for more on shocking new developments.
Rapper Bobby Shmurda, 22, stunned his fans Sept. 9 when he accepted a seven-year plea deal in his conspiracy to commit murder case, as well as several gang-related weapons and drug charges. The “Shmoney Dance” hitmaker was about to go on trial in the case, but according to TMZ who was in the courtroom, his attorney begged Bobby to take the seven-year prison deal rather than face an unsympathetic Manhattan jury in a trial. He could have faced a whopping 25 years in prison if a jury found him guilty.
The good news for Bobby is he won’t actually be serving the whole seven years in prison and will be out a whole lot sooner than that! “His sentence of seven years, with credit for two years already served and good time credit will hopefully permit him to be home in approximately three-and-a-half years and resume his remarkable career. This plea also covers a separate Bronx indictment,” his lawyer Alex Spiro told reporters outside of court. That’s also great news for his fans who have been waiting for years for new music from him as he’s cooled his heels behind bars.
Bobby — whose real name is Ackquille Pollard — has been in jail since 2014, when he was arrested with over a dozen cohorts on a slew of gun and drug charges. According to the New York Daily News, prosecutors claimed he was the leader of a street crew called GS9 that, “was responsible for dealing drugs and several shootings in Brooklyn.”
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised that Bobby took the plea deal?
