Alberto Del Rio and WWE are getting a divorce! The wrestler was suspended for a wellness policy violation in August, and the organization announced today, Sept. 9, that he will no longer be with them. Get all of the details right here.
Alberto Del Rio, 39, AKA Jose Rodriguez, can no longer refer to the WWE as his home. The organization made the announcement in an official statement: “WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.” That’s code for “see ya”!
Del Rio also tweeted about it. “My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms…thanks for the opportunities they gave me,” he wrote. “Termine mi relación con WWE.”
Decidí dejar @wwe terminamos nuestra relación en buenos términos
Nos deseamos lo mejor mutuamente

Twitter’s reaction to the announcement was fairly unsupportive of the wrestler, with some fans pointing out that Del Rio wasn’t too great to begin with. “Adiós, Alberto. You had a good run this time. Who am I kidding, it was terrible,” one user tweeted. Heh.
This is not too shocking, considering that there have been rumors that Del Rio is dissatisfied with the organization. Sources told the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he “was unhappy, claiming he was given empty promises when they brought him back last year for a surprise return”, so at the end of the day, his departure makes sense. “He indicated he was promised a main event push which didn’t materialize,” the insiders added.
Del Rio was suspended beginning Aug. 18 for thirty days along with his fellow Superstar and real-life girlfriend Paige, who committed the same violation. He was previously fired from WWE in August 2014 for “unprofessional conduct” after an incident with an employee, but later returned to the organization. Looks like he’s gone for good, though!
