Just when we thought Serena Williams was unbeatable, Karolina Pliskova swooped in and sent the tennis legend HOME on Sept. 8! Competing at the US Open semi-finals, Karolina was able to break the tie game and now has a solid chance of winning the tournament. These are the five most fascinating facts about the foreign player.
1. Yep, her name sure is foreign! Karolina is from the Czech Republic.
Karolina Pliskova was born in the Czech Republic, in the small town of Louny — located northeast of the country’s capital, Prague. Louny has a population of roughly 19,000 people, and to be honest, there’s not much to do around there. Luckily, Karolina was able to pick up tennis as her favorite hobby to pass the time.
2. She’s a twin!
Just when we thought ONE Pliskova sister was enough to dominate the sport, we find out she’s got an identical twin — who ALSO plays tennis! Her sister’s name is Krystina and she won the junior Wimbledon competition in 2012.
3. She lives in Monte Carlo.
Karolina has connections all over the world! Like her sister, Karolina also lives and does all her tennis training in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
4. You can follow her on Twitter.
Don’t worry, you’ll be able to understand her Twitter page since most of it’s in English! Her handle is @KaPliskova if you want to follow her and get to know her a little bit better. Her page mostly consists of training videos where you can see how she prepares for tennis tournaments.
5. She loves to travel and has an interest in fashion!
Karolina’s career has taken her ALL over the world from Dubai to Paris, and like most girls, she isn’t afraid of taking sexy selfies in every country she visits. Even though she’s a bit of a tomboy, Karolina loves dressing up from time to time in lavish gowns, while still keeping her makeup looking au-natural.
