Since losing his wife Joey to cancer, singer Rory Feek has done everything he can to keep her alive in not just his own life but also in the life of their 2-year-old daughter Indiana. From watching home videos, to talking about her every day, Rory revealed in a recent interview that he just hopes he’s making his late love ‘proud.’
It’s been less than one year since Joey Feek passed away from ovarian cancer back in March, leaving behind her singing partner and husband, Rory Feek, 51, and their two-year-old daughter Indiana. Now a single father, Rory has been taking life day by day while trying to emulate the way his late wife, who was only 40 when she died, lived HER life while she was still alive.
“I’d like to think that Joey is proud of how I’m doing – how we’re all doing, especially Indiana,” Rory revealed to People mag in a recent interview. “She took so much pride in the work of being a mama to Indy, and I find myself thinking of her every day, all day long in the time that Indy and I spend together and the things we do, wondering how she would handle this, or do that.”
The singer/songwriter added, “I remember how present Joey was and am trying to be that way too.” And so far we think he’s doing an impeccable job! After all, Rory, who made up half of the country singing duo Joey+Rory, plays videos of the couple’s performances for their little girl regularly. “We talk about Joey to Indy every day,” he revealed.
But Indy isn’t the only one Rory plans on sharing Joey’s life with. In fact, the artist will share his memories of his wife with the entire world in a loving tribute film titled, To Joey, With Love, which will play in select cities Sept. 20 and Oct. 6. And for Rory, editing hours of the Feeks’ home video into a documentary has been super therapeutic.
I couldn’t really remember Joey healthy and strong. I couldn’t remember her working in the garden. When I started looking at the footage, she came back to life,” he told the publication. “I hope the world remembers my wife for the extraordinary, ordinary woman she was. She was filled with love and light and joy and hope, and faith in a greater story than just the one that she could see with her own eyes.” How beautiful is THAT?
