Are you ready for some football? We certainly are as the NFL’s opening weekend gets underway Sept. 11! There’s going to be plenty of amazing games you’re going to want to keep an eye on and we’ve got all the details on the top matchups!
While the replay of the 2016 Super Bowl between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos kicked off the 2016-17 NFL season Sept. 8, everyone else starts their road to the playoffs on the league’s big opening Sun. Sept. 11. All eyes will be on the New England Patriots as they start out their season minus their star quarterback Tom Brady, 39, who is sitting out the team’s first four games due to his Deflategate suspension. Jimmy Garoppolo, 24, will be leading the team up against the Arizona Cardinals, who last year won the NFC West with a stellar 13-3 record before getting destroyed in the playoffs after key player injuries. The matchup is the Sunday night highlight game at 8:30pm EST on NBC.
The NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings are hoping to start off strong despite losing their electrifying young quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, 23, to a knee injury in the pre-season. The team traded away a first round draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles to nab Sam Bradford, 28, as his QB replacement. Luckily they’re playing the lowly Tennessee Titans, who finished last season at 3-13. The game kicks off at 1pm on Fox.
The Seattle Seahawks are looking for another big year in the playoffs and hopefully a third trip to the Super Bowl when they kick things off against the always awful Miami Dolphins at 4:05pm EST on CBS. Green Bay is another strong playoff readied team and the Packers start their season against the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1pm EST on FOX.
The rest of the games on Sept. 11 include:
Cleveland Browns vs. Philadelphia Eagles: 1pm EST on CBS
Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans: 1pm EST on FOX
Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens: 1pm EST on CBS
San Diego Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs: 1pm EST on CBS
Oakland Raiders vs. New Orleans Saints: 1pm EST on FOX
Tampa Bat Buccaneers vs. Atlanta Falcons: 1pm EST on FOX
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys: 4:25pm on FOX
Mon. Sept. 12 will see two more games go down, the first with the Pittsburgh Steelers going up against the Washington Redskins at 7:10pm EST on ESPN. The final game of opening weekend follows with the newly minted Los Angeles Rams playing their first game for the City of Angels, traveling up to the Bay Area to play the San Francisco 49’ers at 10:20pm EST also on ESPN. Now that the Rams are back at home in L.A., we’re sure their neighbors to the north in SF will become one of their greatest rivalries.
HollywoodLifers, which game are you most looking forward to?
