Our hearts sank when we heard that Janet Jackson was reportedly struggling with her pregnancy, on the heels of gaining about 100lbs. As a result, we reached out to one of LA’s top dietician specialists, who EXCLUSIVELY told us that her alleged weight gain could pose a serious health risk.
We couldn’t believe the crazy (yet amazing) news that Janet Jackson, now 50, got pregnant at the age of 49! It was a dream come true, until reality sank in that having a baby at 50 is difficult for a lot of women, as they’re more susceptible to health risks. Now, the iconic singer is reportedly on bed rest because she’s gained close to 100lbs just a few months into her pregnancy, which is not good news, according to registered dietitian, Lisa DeFazio.
“Excessive weight gain during pregnancy can lead to serious health risks,” Lisa tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “These include gestational diabetes which means the baby will be overweight (over 10lbs). It is likely the baby would have blood sugar issues upon birth and the baby may not fit in the birth canal, so the doctors would have to do an emergency C-section. The health factors that Janet should be concerned with are high blood pressure, excessive water retention, joint and back problems because of all the weight, extra strain on her heart and again gestational diabetes. All of these conditions place a strain on her kidneys.”
Fortunately, there is a way Janet can avoid all these issues. The singer/dancer would have to meet with a “dietician to manage her weight and to follow a calorie controlled gestational diabetic diet.” Still, it is surprising that Janet’s weight has reportedly gotten a little out of control, considering she can afford some of the best doctors in the business who must have kept track of her progress. One hundred pounds is not something doctors could easily miss. We hope Janet can get back on track and run through this pregnancy smoothly!
