Is Dani Mathers going to jail? The Playboy model could serve time behind bars for the bodyshaming Snapchat pic she posted while at the gym this summer. Get the details right here!
Dani shocked fans in July when she snuck a picture of a naked older woman who was getting dressed in the gym locker room and shared it on her Snapchat story with the caption “If I can’t unsee this then you can’t either.” But while the 29-year-old Playboy playmate certainly got some criticism for her not-so-nice move, what Dani probably didn’t expect was that her joking pic could land her in jail!
Nearly two months after Dani shared the picture of the naked woman, she was spotted meeting up with her lawyer on Sept. 7 — because she’s facing a criminal trial for the pic. If the judge rules Dani guilty of dissemination of private images, she could be in jail for six months! Who would’ve ever thought that a social media post would land someone in the slammer!
As soon as Dani’s gym picture hit the Internet, the LAPD announced that they were working to track down the woman she photographed to pursue a criminal complaint. Police announced on Sept. 5 that they had found the woman, according to Daily Mail, and they’re encouraging her prosecutors charge Dani for sharing such a private picture!
In fact, there’s a specific California law that could end up being used against Dani. The “Peeping Tom Statute,” otherwise known as California Penal Code 647(j)(1), states that “any person who…views the interior of a changing room, fitting room, dressing room, or tanning booth, or the interior of any other area in which the occupant has a reasonable expectation of privacy, with the intent to invade the privacy of a person or persons inside” will be found guilty of a misdemeanor, according to People.
Although there is a possibility of jail time for Dani, a California managing attorney named Troy Slaten said that it’s likely she’ll just end up with probation for her exposing social media pic. This may include psych classes, community service, or even restitution.
And considering Dani feels terrible about what she did, judges may not feel it’s necessary to lock her up. “I need to take some time to myself now to reflect on why I did this horrible thing,” she tweeted in July. Whether it’s jail time or probation, it sounds like Dani may have plenty of time to reflect!
