Logo has created something seriously new and entertaining. ‘Finding Prince Charming,’ hosted by Lance Bass, sets up suitor Robert Sepúlveda Jr. with 13 men, in an attempt to find his true love. Lance and Robert stopped by the HollywoodLife podcast to dish on the new series — listen here!
On those Bachelor comparisons:
LB: I wish I could be Chris Harrison! I’m the host of the show and I’m so excited to be part of it. I watch everything on TV, I’m a TV guru. So I like my scripted and unscripted. This is the type of show I would have viewing parties for.
R: The premise of our show is not to propose, or to get married at the end. The Bachelor/The Bachelorette are really unrealistic with that. This is a more realistic show. I got to spend time with these 13 guys and make really deep connections with them.
On real issues it approaches:
R: Everyone is going to watch us connect and tackle other issues. It’s going to be a fun show, dramatic. We’re going to tackle a lot of deep issues, not only those that affect the LGBTQ community but people in general every day. So people tuning in will be able to identify with a lot of the characters.
L: HIV/ AIDS has a huge misconception. Which is understandable. There’s so many fake things said about it. I was happy to learn there was a contestant who is HIV positive, but that’s a stigma we have to fight against in this community. I think this will be very educational for people to watch.
On developing the season:
LB: First season’s are always so interesting with reality shows because you don’t really know what the show is until you start shooting it. With reality, which I really respect, instead of with scripted where you write the story beforehand, this is a show where the story writes itself. The story writers have a lot of pressure on them because they want to show the true story, and it’s very hard to do that when you’re getting all the information live.
On doing the show now:
RSJ: I was ending a relationship, and my cousin had just passed away at 20 years old. She was very young, so I knew in life you had to take risks. I was ready to open myself up to new experiences. I knew there was going to be 13 amazing guys opening themselves up to me as well. Logo contacted me back in February and I just went for it. I took the risk and the outcome was really amazing.
On Lance’s involvement:
RSJ: Lance was an amazing mentor. He had to be neutral because he would spend time with the guys and with me. If I had any questions regarding love, or needed advice, he would give me answers. He’s an amazing icon and he’s married.
LB: Part of my role unofficially was to be the best wingman ever. I found my Prince Charming and I’ve definitely dated a lot of frogs out there, so I can see through some people. I was a sounding board through Robert’s process.
Finding Prince Charming airs September 8, at 9PM on Logo!
